Patti LaBelle Says She Once Wanted To Slap A Talk Show Guest Who Mocked Her

Patti LaBelle is reflecting on a time when she was not too pleased with a guest on “The Tyra Banks Show” for mocking her.

During a recent appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Patti LaBelle recalled the moment when she wanted to slap a guest over a decade ago on Tyra Banks’ former talk show. On “The Tyra Banks Show,” which aired from 2005-2010, LaBelle was featured in a baking segment with Banks and cookbook author Lisa Lillien.

In the baking segment, the legendary singer grabs a cupcake and assures the audience that she’s touching the paper wrapped around the cupcake. She says to the crowd,

“This has paper on it.”

However, Lillien seemingly misunderstood LaBelle’s comment and tells the singer,

“Yeah, you can’t eat the paper.”

Patti LaBelle then responds,

“Nope, but you can touch ’em with your hands.”

While Lillien and Tyra Banks try to move forward with the segment, LaBelle is visibly upset and is seen making facial expressions and remarks under her breath.

When LaBelle tries explaining to Lillien that she’s aware she can’t eat the paper wrapped around the cupcake, the cookbook author says,

“No paper, paper bad; cake good.”

LaBelle then asks the audience,

“What’s wrong with her?”

During her visit to Jennifer Hudson’s talk show, Patti LaBelle took a moment to reflect on the incident. According to the famed entertainer, she “wanted to slap that heffa so hard.”

She also warns Hudson that she may experience similar encounters in her career.

“You’re going to go through them. Yeah girl, because you’re a baby, I’m an OG.”

During the same interveiw, Patti LaBelle also addresses her love life and the possibility of dating.

After host Jennifer Hudson asks Patti LaBelle if she was open to dating, the “On My Own” singer reveals,

“Well sorta, kinda. How old am I? 78…I was married for 32 years to a wonderful man and we’re still friends, good friends.”

She adds,

“So I think in life I need to find happiness for myself, other than what I had back in the day with him, which was wonderful. But I’m too good to be solo.”

The Godmother of Soul seems to be doing just fine in the love department. She let Hudson know that she’s ready to mingle and already has “a nice person in mind.”

However, she didn’t share who the mystery man is, stating,

“That’s my personal business.”
