Former NFL Star Willie McGinest Charged w/ Two Felonies For Hitting Man In Head w/ Bottle

Legendary linebacker Willie McGinest is facing some serious jail time.

If you hadn’t heard, in December 2022, Willie McGinest was arrested for punching an unnamed man in the face and smacking him across the head with a bottle.

A video of the unfortunate incident captured Willie McGinest committing the vile act at a restaurant in West Hollywood, along with a group of others… who were also reportedly beating the victim. The cause of the crime isn’t (exactly) clear, but footage of the event showed the ex-New England Patriots star (seemingly) exchanging words with the individual.

His bail was set at $30,000, but (eventually) he was able to post bond. However, earlier this week, the 51-year-old was slapped with one count of assault with a deadly weapon and another count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. Each felony charge comes with the possibility of up to four years behind bars.

Prior to the recent news, McGinest apologized for the attack in a statement.

The Hall of Famer shared:

“First and foremost, I want to offer my deepest apology for my lapse in judgment and behavior on December 9 at a restaurant in West Hollywood. To my family, community, friends, and youth I mentor, please know I feel horrible for my actions and take full responsibility.”

The situation later resulted in a suspension from his position as an on-air spokesman for NFL Network. When speaking of the layoff, McGinest added,

“To my colleagues at the NFL Network and those I work closely with as an advisor to professional and [community-based] organizations, please know I am embarrassed and regret what occurred. Most of all, I am disappointed in myself. as I know this is an isolated incident and is not reflective of my faith, role as a father, life’s body of work, or the role model I’ve worked hard to become.”

Following the occurrence, McGinest has claimed to have taken this much-needed time to do a”deep self-reflection.”

His next court date is scheduled for April.
