Cardi B Shuts Down Reports That She & Megan Thee Stallion Have Asked To Star In A ‘B.A.P.S.’ Remake: ‘I Don’t Even Know Where That Rumor Even Came About’
OOPS! It looks like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion won’t be joining forces for a rendition of the classic film B.A.P.S. after all.
In a recent tweet, Cardi B addressed the viral claim that’s been flooding our social media timelines for the past week or so, and it seems that she actually has no recollection of a conversation about a remake.
Responding to blogger KenBarbie’s statement about the false report, Cardi B wrote,
“I don’t even know where that rumor even came about… .Maybe because we looked soo cute in the Wap video ? …kiss kiss.”
If you didn’t know, rappers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion teamed up for their 2020 hit “WAP,” which (loosely) gave an aesthetically-pleasing tease of the 1997 Blockbuster.
Starring Halle Berry and the late Natalie Desselle-Reid, ‘B.A.P.S. (Black American Princesses)’ follows two friends from Decatur, Georgia on their (unconventional) rags-to-riches quest in the City of Angels, better known as the great Los Angeles, California.
The uber-successful hit earned $7.3 million at box offices worldwide and quickly became an entertainment staple in African-American households that still holds generational weight today.
During his newest interview with Slash Film, actor/filmmaker Robert Townsend–who directed the Hollywood sensation–sparked hearsay of a B.A.P.S. redo, allegedly stating that the “Up” lyricist and Megan Thee Stallion had been among those who’ve expressed interest in participating.
He expressed,
“It’s so funny because people want a sequel to [B.A.P.S.].”
Apparently, according to the article, Robert Townsend said that “everybody from Megan Thee Stallion to Cardi B” has inquired about the possibility of a reboot.
It was noted that Robert Townsend didn’t appear to want to tamper with the story’s impact, as most believe it has already been done enough justice. As for Megan Thee Stallion, no word from the “Pressurelicious” rhymer so far.
This isn’t the first rumor that Cardi B has had to clear up lately though. Earlier this month, “Bardi” debunked talks of a beauty line drop, which was reportedly going to be called Kulture Wave… in honor of her two children.
Be it makeup or movies, we’re sure that we’ll see Cardi B (+ Stallion) in some way or somehow. Just not right now. And maybe not together (again) yet.
