Lil Nas X Issues Apology For Allegedly Mocking Trans Community By Saying ‘The Surgery Was A Success’
Lil Nas X hasn’t transitioned, and he has issued an apology for ever claiming he did.
The “Industry Baby” artist (real name Montero Lamar Hill) posted a now-deleted image of a Black woman rocking butterfly locs to social media on Tuesday (March 14), along with the caption,
“the surgery was a success.”
Some people — specifically members of the transgender community — apparently didn’t find the alleged joke funny.
As is customary on social media, several users called Lil Nas X out for seemingly making fun of the transitioning process, which led to the rapper’s apology.
Lil Nas X apologized to the transgender community, saying,
“apologies to the trans community i def handled that situation with anger instead of considering why it was not cool. much love to you guys. sorry”
However, some individuals weren’t moved by what they thought was a fake apology. One Twitter user advised him to express his regret through “material things” and by using his platform to raise awareness.
In response, Lil Nas replied,
“Girl eat my a*s”
Several social media users made it clear that they were not interested in Lil Nas‘ initial tweet, his apology, or his subsequent responses.
I think we’re rubbing up on the clear limitations of troll-as-persona with Lil Nas X cause this constant need to make weird (unfunny) trans jokes is… pic.twitter.com/DPiTlvo1HR

so once again @LilNasX responding with spite and vitriol instead of engaging with the very valid criticism coming from an actual trans person. AND is cool with your fans harassing and sending threats to a Black trans woman who named the ways your apology fell short. okay https://t.co/fLM2wUnL18 pic.twitter.com/aDyyyNZ2Hk

The drama comes two months after Lil Nas posed the following question to his audience:
“be fr would y’all be mad at me if i thought i was a little bisexual”
Many of the Grammy Award-winning artist’s 8 million followers made it clear that they will completely love him regardless if he was to confirm his bisexual status. A few women even chimed in shooting their shots at the rap star.
The musician will undoubtedly be more adept at navigating situations should he come out to the public as bisexual. Lil Nas has spoken candidly about the challenges he has encountered since coming out as homosexual in 2019. Despite his struggles, the artist has revealed he avoids discussing homophobia in his music because he feels it is harmful to his well-being.
Following fellow rapper Da Baby‘s 2021 comments many deemed homophobic, Lil Nas said:
“The honest truth is, I don’t want to speak on a lot of the homophobia within rap because I feel like this is a very dangerous playing field. It’s more for my own safety rather than anything else.”
