Jam Master Jay – Third Man Charged In 2002 Murder Of Run DMC Member
New details have surfaced in the ongoing murder investigation of Jam Master Jay.
Jam Master Jay, born Jason Mizell, was the DJ for the legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC, which also featured Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels. The trio rose to fame in the 80s and is credited as being one of the musical acts that helped bring in the golden age of hip-hop. Unfortunately, the Grammy-nominated group suffered a great loss on October 30, 2002, when Jam Master Jay was fatally shot in New York City while in his recording studio.
As previously reported, almost two decades after Jam Master Jay was murdered, two men – Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr. – were indicted in August 2020 for his death.
According to new reports, a third man was recently charged in the shooting of Jay. On Tuesday (May 30) federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York filed a superseding indictment against 49-year-old Jay Bryant, who’s reportedly already in federal custody for unrelated drug charges.
In a letter filed with the court yesterday, prosecutors claimed Bryant, alongside Washington and Jordan, entered the building the evening the known DJ was killed and fled after the shooting. Reportedly, Bryant’s DNA was recovered on a piece of clothing left behind at the scene.
However, his attorney said via email,
“Securing an indictment in a secret grand jury, applying an extremely low burden of proof, is one thing. Proving it at trial is another matter,”
Bryant will reportedly plead not guilty. Washington and Jordan’s trial has been set for January 2024.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
