Joe Jonas’ Estranged Wife Sophie Turner Files Lawsuit Claiming Singer Has ‘Wrongfully Detained’ Their Children & Won’t Hand Over Passports So They Can Return To England
Looks like the divorce between Joe Jonas and actress Sophie Turner isn’t as amicable as it initially seemed.
Earlier this month news broke that Jonas Brothers member Joe Jonas, 34, and his wife Sophie Turner, 27, decided to call things off. The pair married in 2019 and share two children together – Willa, 3, and a 14-month-old daughter who has been identified in court docs as “D.” In a joint statement announcing their separation, the former lovers said,
“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Following the announcement, they have remained fairly quiet on the situation, until now. Today (Sept. 21) Sophie Turner filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan court claiming that her ex is unlawfully keeping their children in America and she wants them “returned” to England.
According to the legal document, the English actress and Joe Jonas agreed that England would be their “forever home” during conversations that took place last Christmas. Allegedly, they even sold their Miami home and started the home-buying process in the UK earlier this year in April. Around this time, Turner was filming a TV project and Jonas was touring with the Jonas Brothers.
Despite Turner’s “hesitation,” they reportedly agreed on a “temporary arrangement,” allowing their children to stay with Jonas on tour because his schedule afforded him more daytime hours to attend to the minors.
The “Game of Thrones” star noted in her filing that her relationship with Jonas came to a screeching halt after an argument they had last month. She claimed to have learned that the “Summer Baby” singer filed for divorce following the dispute “from the media.”
Their split didn’t stop Turner from continuing forward with the plans to move their kids to her home country. However, her lawsuit claimed when she met with Jonas to discuss taking their children with her, he revealed a change of heart.
According to the documents,
“The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother.”
Reportedly, Jonas’ attorneys told Turner’s legal team on Tuesday (Sept. 19) that their client has no intentions of allowing their children to move overseas or handing over their passports.
