Kelly Rowland Shares How Nipsey Hussle Helped Shape Her Parenting Approach: ‘I Wanted My Boys To Have Integrity’
Singer Kelly Rowland is crediting Nipsey Hussle for some of her evolved parenting skills.
During a recent interview, the Destiny’s Child member explained how the late musician inspired her to teach her sons about making good decisions.
She stated:
“I wanted my boys to have integrity and I got that from Nipsey Hussle. It’s amazing to me that he would talk to his kids about making the right decision even when no one is watching. That was everything,”
And continued:
“Nobody knows how much, how hard you work but you do it because you love it. I want them to be the kind of men who are proud of themselves. That’s really important to me—being good decision-makers.”
Nipsey, real name Ermias Asghedom, was the father of two children, a daughter named Emani, 14, and a son named Kross, 6, who he had with actress Lauren London. The California rap star was well known for his philanthropy, and thoughts on the importance of family and community, and was widely respected in his hometown and in the entertainment industry.
If you recall, Nipsey was shot and killed outside of his flagship clothing store back in 2019 at the age of 33. A man named Eric Holder was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison earlier this year after being found guilty of the fatal shooting.
Despite his passing, it’s clear Nipsey continues to impact lives beyond the grave. Rowland is the mother of two boys Titan, 8, and Noah, 2, whom she said she hopes to teach lessons to about accountability. The singer shares her sons with husband Tim Weatherspoon — they married in 2014. Reportedly, the two met nearly a decade prior to becoming involved romantically, though the talent manager said he knew it was love after the first date.
Speaking on her marriage to Weatherspoon in a previous interview, Rowland stated:
“Before I was married, I was like, ‘Well, if it doesn’t work, you just get a divorce…[But now,] that’s not an option for me. That’s not an option for me because I know I have a good man. I know I have someone that loves me unconditionally, and we’re gonna sort this thing out, we’re gonna figure it out. Above anything, we’ve got faith, and we’ve got each other.”
The couple has historically kept a low profile, mostly appearing only on the singer’s Instagram feed and at certain events.
