Jada Pinkett Smith Says Will Smith Has To Be The One To Open Up About Infamous Chris Rock Slap: ‘I Am Going To Be By His Side Always’
Jada Pinkett Smith said,
“I think you gotta be really careful about the why. So that’s Will’s story to tell.”
Despite their (private) separation occurring eight years before the infamous slap incident, the “Set It Off” actress revealed that she left the ceremony, once again, feeling as if she was fully committed to her marriage.
She continued,
“What I will say is that being there with him that night, what I did know is that I might not have walked in there as his wife, but I left that night as his wife. And as I sit here today, I am going to be by his side always.”
As previously reported, Jada Pinkett Smith acknowledged that she accepted the title of being a cheating spouse to preserve the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star’s privacy after his Red Table Talk appearance, in which they notoriously disclosed her “entanglement” with singer August Alsina.

Jada and Will Smith tied the knot in 1997. The couple are parents to Willow and Jaden Smith, who are both stars in their own right. Will is also a father to Trey from a previous marriage.
During her chat with Burleson, Jada revealed that she believes her time apart from her husband allowed her to grow emotionally and work through some misconceptions about what marriage entails.
.@jadapsmith opens up to @nateburleson about her deeply personal memoir, in which she discusses her marriage to Will Smith and her mental health struggles: “I probably did have the perfect life. Jada has been causing a lot of commotion since she started a publicity tour to support her memoir. While some believe she has the right to tell her experience as she sees fit, others think she is sharing information that belongs in-house and embarrassing her spouse.
In any case, she is clearly enjoying every second of their journey, even though it hasn’t been an easy one.
Jada said,
“People need to take away this fantasy that relationships should be perfect. This fantasy that people should be perfect. Life is nuanced, life is complicated. And what’s most important is that when you have somebody with you that’s willing to learn how to love, and you two are willing to learn how to love each other — ride it out.”
