R. Kelly Claims He Wasn’t Aware Of $10.5 Million Lawsuit Against Him For Allegedly Threatening Mass Shooting At A Private Screening Of ‘Surviving R. Kelly’
R. Kelly says he had no idea he was being sued for allegedly trying to prevent the viewing of his docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly.”
According to TMZ, six women who were victimized by the jailed R&B singer were awarded approximately $10.5 million in damages in August. The judgement stemmed from an incident that took place back in December 2018, in which the women claimed that R. Kelly and his former manager, Donnell Russell, were responsible for disrupting a private NYC screening event of the well-talked-about series “Surviving R. Kelly” by A&E/Lifetime.

As you may recall, the series focuses on R. Kelly’s alleged victims who claim to have been sexually abused by the Chicago native.
In the lawsuit, Donnell Russell and Kelly are accused of calling in a shooting threat at the theater, which led to the event getting canceled. However, according to new legal docs, the 57-year-old musician said he had no knowledge of the pending lawsuit, claiming it’s hard for him to keep up with his various legal troubles while he does his 30-year sentence behind bars for child pornography and sex trafficking. He also said he’d often switch defense teams in-and-out.

Kelly alleged he would’ve defended himself against the suit had he been made aware. However, he noted he would still need legal assistance from his lawyers in order to be able to comprehend the legal paperwork. In addition, Kelly said he had no clue Donnell Russell was planning on sabotaging the condemning screening, and if he did then,
“he did that for his own reasons.”
Kelly also claimed that Russell was never his manager to begin with, despite the suit stating otherwise. Russell was reportedly sentenced to 20 months in a federal prison for attempting to halt “Surviving R. Kelly” through a mass shooting threat.
