Jon Stewart Returns Part-Time To ‘The Daily Show’ As The Series Struggles To Find Permanent Replacement For Trevor Noah
Comedy Central’s conundrum regarding a permanent host for ‘The Daily Show” has temporarily been resolved.
Earlier today (Jan. 24) it was announced that the show’s debut and veteran host Jon Stewart will return to the series through the election cycle, putting a pause on their search for a replacement for Trevor Noah.
Jon Stewart, 61, who led the late-night talk show to its success in the early 2000s, will only be hosting Monday night segments. He will be taking on an executive producer role as well and plans to stay throughout the 2024 presidential election. Stewart walked away from the satirical news series back in 2015, handing the reigns over to his successor Trevor Noah. However, the network has been in the weeds trying to find a replacement for the South African comic following his abrupt departure back in 2022.
For now, it seems Comedy Central reasoned that bringing back the original who made the series so great will suffice until they’re able to find their next permanent correspondent. Speaking on Stewart’s return, Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, reportedly stated:
“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,”

Adding:
“In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”
Stewart and Noah have also reacted to the announcement on their own social media accounts, with the former writing:
“Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility. Excited for the future! 5’7” ish 165 14.8 second 40 #Blessed #NILBABY #TDSnation #LFGM”
And the latter adding:
“Yessssssss he’s back”
At this time, there has been no update regarding who will take over once Stewart’s revived contract expires. Reportedly, several other of the show’s correspondents will host the program Tuesday through Thursday nights. Stewart’s first day back is scheduled for February 12th.
