Tracy Morgan Clarifies Joke That He Gained 40 Pounds On Weight Loss Drug: ‘Ozempic Did Great By Me’
Update (March 29, 2024): Tracy Morgan is setting the record straight after he claimed he gained 40 pounds while using Ozempic.
He told E! News this week,
“That was just a joke. Ozempic did great by me and I was glad to use it.”
He added that he takes the popular weight loss medication “every Thursday,” adding,
“Now I only eat half a bag of Doritos.”
Original Story (March 20, 2024): Tracy Morgan is weighing in on the Ozempic craze.
While dozens of celebrities praise the effects of weight loss medication, the comedian joked that he experienced the opposite.
On Tuesday’s (March 19) episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the late-night host told Tracy Morgan he looks “great” and asked him how he’s been “staying in shape these days.”
Tracy Morgan proudly replied,
“Well that’s Ozempic.”
The audience laughed before The Last O.G. alum, 55, added,
“But I’ve learned to out-eat Ozempic. I gained 40 pounds. I’m like Magic Johnson, I gained 40 pounds.”
His remark comes just days after Oprah Winfrey’s special to end the stigma on weight loss medication aired on ABC Monday night (March 18).
In the televised program, Oprah Winfrey opened up about her weight loss journey, including a moment when she did a liquid diet to lose nearly 70 pounds. She first explained the “sense of hope” that comes with weight loss medication.
“No. 1, and No. 2, you no longer blame yourself. When I tell you how many times I have blamed myself because you think, ‘I’m smart enough to figure this out,’ and then to hear all along, it’s you fighting your brain.”
She added that she “starved” herself for five months to lose nearly 67 pounds. She famously showed off the weight loss by bringing a “wagon of fat” to represent each pound she had lost on her former daytime talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show.
“After losing 67 pounds on liquid diet, the next day, the very next day, I started to gain it back.”

She continued,
“All these years, I thought all of the people who never had to diet were just using their willpower and they were for some reason stronger than me. But now I realize y’all weren’t even thinking about the food. It’s not that you had the willpower. You weren’t even thinking about it. You weren’t obsessing about it.”
Oprah Winfrey admitted to taking weight loss medication in December. Shortly after, she left the WeightWatchers board to prevent a conflict of interest.
