Darius Rucker Wants Morgan Wallen Forgiven Following N-Word Incident, Says Morgan Has Since ‘Bettered Himself’

Country music icon Darius Rucker, 58, has expressed his belief that Morgan Wallen, 31, should be forgiven following the controversy over his use of the n-word.

On the July 2nd episode of Rolling Stone’s Music Now podcast, Darius Rucker shared his perspective on Morgan Wallen’s journey since the 2021 incident:

“I think Morgan’s become a better person since that … I’ve known Morgan a long time. Since all that happened Morgan’s tried to really better himself and become a better person and see the world in a much better, better way.”

Darius Rucker also commented on the consequences Morgan Wallen has faced:

“You know, he’s not forgiven. He’s still not out for CMAs and ACMs.”

Despite this, Rucker emphasized Wallen’s continued popularity:

“They can say what they want, but the fact that Morgan Wallen is not up for entertainer of the year and those things is crazy. No one’s selling more tickets than Morgan.”

In a video from February 2021, Wallen, who was 27 years old at the time, was recorded shouting the n-word and other expletives upon arriving home with friends. Following the incident, Wallen apologized to media outlets, stating:

“I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”

The incident led to significant repercussions for Wallen, including suspension by his record label and removal of his music from major radio stations.

Despite these setbacks, Wallen’s sophomore album, Dangerous, received a nomination for album of the year at the 2021 CMA Awards, from which he was banned.

Wallen later won the top honor at the 2022 ACM Awards and performed at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards after being deemed “uncanceled” by record executive, Diddy, who has since faced his own cancellation.
