Ellen DeGeneres Says She’s ‘Done’ w/ The Entertainment Industry After Upcoming Netflix Special

Ellen DeGeneres is preparing to exit stage left.

During a recent standup set in Santa Rosa, California, the former talk show host made it clear that she’ll be done with Hollywood at the end of her comedy tour. Seemingly referencing her 2020 controversy that played a major hand in The Ellen DeGeneres Show ending, she joked,

“Thank you for still caring! Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me. I got chickens.”

And continued,

“Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”

Elsewhere during the set, she said,

“I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now, I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”

And added,

“I am many things, but I am not mean.”

During the audience Q&A part of the show, a fan questioned if Ellen DeGeneres would return to screen acting or try Broadway during the next stage of her life. However, the multi-Daytime Emmy Award winner candidly replied,

“Um, no, this is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”

After another attendee asked if she had plans to voice the character Dory from Finding Nemo again should there be another installment in the film series, Ellen DeGeneres doubled down with,

“No, I’m going bye-bye, remember.”

Ellen DeGeneres is currently on her Ellen’s Last Stand… Up tour. Earlier this month news broke that she shockingly canceled several tour dates with no explanation. As previously reported, In May 2021, DeGeneres confirmed that her popular talk show would conclude at the end of season 19. The announcement came after she was accused of looking the other way while executive producers of the series created and upheld a hostile work environment for staff.
