Rapper Flavor Flav is embracing his role as a sponsor and the “official hype man” of the United States women’s water polo team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 65-year-old signed a five-year sponsorship deal with the Olympic team earlier this year. The partnership came together after Flavor Flav, real name William Drayton Jr., connected with U.S. team captain Maggie Steffens on Instagram in May after one of her posts caught his attention. In her upload, she vocalized her experiences within the not-so-popular sport and highlighted that Olympic athletes needed to work multiple jobs in order to continue competing.

In a comment left under the post, the Public Enemy rapper offered his full support to the team that has previously won three Olympic gold medals. He wrote,
“As a girl dad and supporter of all women’s sports – imma personally sponsor you my girl,,, whatever you need. My manager is in touch with your agent and imma use all my relationships and resources to help all y’all even more. That’s a FLAVOR FLAV promise.”

As part of their five-year agreement, Flavor Flav will make multiple appearances at USA Water Polo events annually. It’s also reported that he made an undisclosed financial contribution to the women’s program. In addition, he agreed to use his social media presence to collaborate and help bring attention to the sport.
Speaking on why he sponsored USA Women’s Water Polo, Flav said during a recent interview,
“… these girls got three gold medals right now. I want to see them get a fourth one, and I want to help them out.”

The musician has made several posts online about supporting the women in person as well. In a recent post shared to Instagram today (July 29), Flav uploaded a video surrounded by USA’s water polo team members in Paris. Film director Spike Lee, 67, was also in attendance.

In another video uploaded earlier this month, Flav jumped into the pool with the women’s team to learn how to play water polo. In the post, he admitted that the sport is “harder than you think.”
