Update: Donald Trump’s Spokesperson Deletes Video w/ Beyoncé’s ‘Freedom’ Song After She Reportedly Sent A Cease & Desist
Update (Aug. 22, 2024): It looks like Donald Trump’s team got the message! Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Donald Trump has deleted a video that was posted on X (formerly Twitter), with Beyoncé’s “Freedom” playing in the background. In the clip, Donald Trump was seen getting off of a plane in Michigan before a campaign event.
After reports that Beyoncé issued a cease-and-desist for using the single, which happens to be Kamala Harris’ unofficial campaign song, the video has now been removed from Cheung’s X page.
This comes after Isaac Hayes’ family filed a $3 million lawsuit against Donald Trump and his campaign over the use of his song “Hold On, I’m Coming,” without permission.
Original Story (Aug. 21, 2024): Beyoncé has threatened to send a cease-and-desist to the Trump campaign after the former president posted a clip of her “Freedom” — Kamala Harris’ unofficial campaign song — in a video posted on social media, Rolling Stone reports.
A source close to Beyoncé tells the outlet that the Trump campaign did not receive permission to use the Lemonade track in the 13-second video of Trump getting off a plane in Michigan that Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung posted Tuesday.
As of press time Wednesday, the video was still up on Cheung’s X account despite her label issuing the cease-and-desist.
