Leah Remini & Estranged Husband Say ‘Marriage Was A Huge Success’ Amid Divorce Announcement After 21 Years

Another Hollywood couple is calling it quits!

Actress Leah Remini and her estranged husband Angelo Pagán recently announced they’re divorcing after more than two decades together.

Leah Remini, 54, and Angelo Pagán, 56, revealed their separation in a joint statement posted to their Instagram accounts Thursday (August 29th). Along with two pictures of the former couple at the beginning and end of their relationship, the post read:

“Well, here we are. After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce. This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us.”

The message continued:

“We are proud of how we have worked through this together. Yes, we’re sad, and we’ve got some figuring out to do as we continue to move forward into our new normal—together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones.”

Going on, Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán maintained that they are ending on good terms, noting that they’ve been “best friends for so many years” and will continue to do things like get together for holidays and watch their favorite TV shows. The pair were married by a Scientology minister in a 2003 Las Vegas ceremony. Their only child together, daughter Sofia, was born the following year. Pagán also has three sons from a previous relationship — Angelo Jr., Alex and Nico — as well as two grandchildren, Mila and Markus.

Additionally, it’s noted that the couple experienced some turbulence at the beginning of the relationship. During a 2010 interview, Remini admitted that while meeting Pagán was like “love at first sight”, things weren’t always smooth between them. She stated:

“It’s a beautiful love story because we did have a hard time at the beginning…We didn’t meet under the best of circumstances. We got counseling and it was not an easy road. So I’m saying these things to be funny, once again, but the truth of the matter is he is my rock.”

Remini and Pagán’s relationship was also put under fire amid the couple’s decision to leave Scientology in 2013, with Remini heading the charge following 30 years devoted to the church. However, their divorce announcement made it clear that the couple’s latest big decision was simply about change. Explaining what led to the divorce, the statement continued:

“To put it simply, we both changed, as people do, and we got used to playing roles that didn’t fit us anymore.”

Adding:

“After a lot of effort and consideration, we’ve decided to take this step, which reflects who we are today.”

The exes ended the post with some words of encouragement, and expressed their beliefs that their marriage was a “huge success,” furthering:

“From our perspective, this marriage was a huge success…We hope our journey can inspire others to see that relationships—whether they change or end—aren’t failures.”
