Ellen DeGeneres Says She’s Done Caring About Being Labeled ‘Mean’ After Toxic Workplace Controversy
Ellen DeGeneres is embracing self-love and no longer letting her past define her. In her new Netflix stand-up special, For Your Approval, she reflects on her transformative journey over the past four years.
“I’ve spent an entire lifetime trying to make people happy and I’ve cared far too much what other people think of me.”
Ellen DeGeneres, who faced significant backlash after allegations of a toxic work environment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, expressed that being labeled “mean” was “devastating” and “consumed” her for a long time. However, she’s now ready to move forward, stating,
“After a lifetime of caring, I just can’t anymore. So I don’t.”
While she hopes to be remembered as “someone who is beloved,” she’s relieved to shed the pressure of maintaining a specific brand image.
The controversy surrounding her show, which ran for 19 seasons before ending in 2022, led to major changes and the firing of several top producers.
