A jury found a former police officer in Louisville, Kentucky, guilty on Friday of violating Breonna Taylor’s civil rights during a botched raid that resulted in her death, according to NBC.

The jury acquitted Brett Hankison of a second charge, which accused him of violating the civil rights of one of Taylor’s neighbors.
Taylor was fatally shot by police officers during the raid on March 13, 2020, but Hankison was not responsible for her death and was not charged with it. The police were at Taylor’s home as part of a drug investigation that was not focused on her. Her boyfriend fired a single shot toward the door, believing that someone was trying to break in. Prosecutors contended that Hankison fired his weapon recklessly.
Hankison, 48, fired ten shots into Taylor’s apartment, but none of those shots hit anyone. Some of his shots also went into a neighboring apartment.
Hankison was being retried by the Justice Department after a previous jury failed to reach a unanimous decision on both counts, resulting in a mistrial in November 2023.
Justice is finally being served. May Breonna Taylor continue to rest in peace.
