Keke Palmer Reveals She ‘Hated’ Her Parents Growing Up: ‘There Was So Much Pressure’
Keke Palmer is reflecting on her relationship with her parents, revealing the intense pressure she faced early in her career.
In an interview with The Cut, Keke shared how being the primary breadwinner for her family following her breakout role in “Akeelah and the Bee” and her Nickelodeon series “True Jackson, VP” led to frustration and resentment:
“I hated my parents for a long time. There was so much pressure to rise to the occasion for my community, for my parents, for my siblings, for their sacrifices.”

Although her parents never directly placed that pressure on her, Keke explained that she still felt it.
She also noted how she related to her “True Jackson, VP” character, as both were balancing adult responsibilities while still being kids:
“She was climbing the corporate ladder, working a grown-up job as a kid. I felt the same way.”
