Detroit Rapper Dank Demoss Sues Lyft After Being Denied Ride Due To Her Size
Detroit rapper Dank Demoss, real name Dajua Blanding, is making headlines after a troubling encounter with a Lyft driver.
Earlier this month, Blanding requested a ride to a Detroit Lions watch party. However, when the driver arrived and saw her, he allegedly refused to give her a ride due to her size. The rapper recorded the interaction and was heard saying,
“I can fit in this car.”
The driver then told her that his tires couldn’t handle the weight, apologized, and suggested she order an Uber XL instead. He also promised to refund the ride so she wouldn’t be charged.
Blanding has now hired attorneys Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan to sue Lyft for discrimination. Marko told Fox 2, “I knew that it was illegal, and I knew that it was wrong,” pointing out that weight is a protected characteristic in Michigan. He emphasized that denying someone a ride based on weight is just as illegal as denying service based on race or religion.
Lyft responded with a statement, condemning all forms of discrimination:
“We believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness.”
