Supreme Court Blocks Order Requiring Trump Administration To Rehire Thousands Of Federal Workers
The Supreme Court has blocked an order that would have required the Trump administration to reinstate thousands of federal workers who were fired in mass layoffs aimed at downsizing the government.
On Tuesday (Apr. 8), the court ruled on the administration’s emergency appeal of a California federal judge’s order to reinstate 16,000 probationary employees across six federal agencies while a lawsuit over their firings progresses.
Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, stating they would have upheld the judge’s order.

This marks the third time in a week the court has sided with the Trump administration over federal judge rulings that have slowed down his agenda. While this decision halts immediate rehiring, many of the fired employees remain on paid administrative leave due to a separate lawsuit filed in Maryland.
