Cardi B Seeks To Block Mention Of Her Stripper Past & Alleged Gang Ties In A$$ault Trial
Cardi B doesn’t want her past used against her in court.
The rapper is set to go to trial on May 12 after being sued by Emani Ellis, a former security guard at a Beverly Hills medical office, over an alleged altercation from 2018.
According to Cardi’s team, the incident occurred while she was visiting her OB-GYN. Emani, who was working security at the office, allegedly began filming Cardi, even though the rapper had not yet publicly announced her pregnancy. Cardi’s lawyer stated,
“[Cardi] asked her to put her phone away because [Cardi’s] pregnancy had not been made public yet.”
The situation escalated into a verbal argument, but Cardi denies touching Emani in any way.

However, Emani claims that Cardi struck her in the face, head, and body, spat on her, and used sharp objects and long fingernails to cause injuries. She also accused Cardi of using profanity and racial slurs and said the rapper tried to get her fired.
Now, Cardi is asking the judge to block any mention of her past as a stripper, alleged gang ties, or drug-related accusations during the trial. Her team argues that bringing up unrelated incidents is a tactic to prejudice the jury. Cardi’s lawyer wrote,
“There is a serious danger that the jury will believe… that [Cardi] is a ‘bad person’ and seek to improperly punish her on that basis.”
A judge has yet to rule.
