Spike Lee Praises Longtime Collaborator Denzel Washington As ‘One Of The Greatest Actors Ever’
Spike Lee is praising his longtime collaborator Denzel Washington.
On the latest episode of Carmelo Anthony’s podcast 7PM in Brooklyn, the director reflected on his decades-long relationship with the Oscar-winning actor, saying,
“It’s a blessing… Time flies. I’m just blessed to work with one of the greatest actors ever.”
The two first teamed up on Mo’ Better Blues (1990) and went on to deliver classics like Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man. Now, they’re reuniting for Highest 2 Lowest, a reinterpretation of Kurosawa’s 1963 film High and Low. Spike Lee shared,
“It’s fire. Denzel, in this film, he plays a music mogul known as having the best ears in the business and there’s a kidnapping… [it’s] action-packed, a nail biter, funny AF.”
The film also stars Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, and A$AP Rocky—who Spike Lee made sure to shout out:
“A$AP, man, he fire. I mean, there’s some scenes where him and [Denzel are] head to head, he ain’t backing up. Like, ‘I’m here too.’”
Highest 2 Lowest premieres May 19 at Cannes Film Festival.
