During his interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, the legendary New Edition frontman shared that Irv Gotti dropped a jaw-dropping $1 million to have him appear in the music video for Ja Rule’s 2002 smash “Thug Lovin’.”
Bobby spoke fondly of the late music exec, who passed away earlier this year due to diabetes complications, praising his generosity and genuine support for others. He shared:
“He was a special cat, man. He loved music. He loved seeing people successful… He loved making sure that you got your just due — that you got paid.”
The big-budget move not only helped elevate the video’s star power, but also cemented Irv’s legacy as someone who believed in putting respect, and real money, on artists’ names.
