Family Of Gilbert Arenas & Laura Govan’s Son Alijah Thanks Supporters & Asks For Privacy Following His Serious Car Accident

An official statement has been released on behalf of Gilbert Arenas and Laura Govan, following a serious car accident that involved their son, Alijah Arenas.

The statement, shared by The Breakfast Club co-host Loren Lorosa, came from a family representative and, in part, read:

“Right now, [the family’s] focus is entirely on Alijah and his well-being. Out of respect for their privacy and to allow them the space to support one another, the family kindly asks that the public and media respect their wishes during this difficult period.”

As previously reported, on April 24, Alijah was driving his Cybertruck around 3 a.m. when he collided with a tree and fire hydrant, totaling the vehicle. The nature of the accident remains unclear at this time.

Later updates confirmed that Alijah was placed into a medically induced coma after the vehicle caught fire — a standard protocol for patients suffering from smoke inhalation. The rising basketball star recently committed to USC and was one of just 48 high school athletes selected to play in this year’s McDonald’s All-American Game.

His mother, Laura Govan, has personally asked for continued prayers as her son recovers. At this time, no further updates about his condition have been released.

Our prayers are with Alijah and his family during this time.
