Michelle Obama Weighs In On Donald Trump’s Immigration Policies: ‘Keeps Me Up At Night’
Former First Lady Michelle Obama expressed deep concern about President Donald Trump’s aggressive deportation policies, especially their effect on immigrants in Chicago.
Speaking on “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” Michelle Obama, 61, said, “In this current climate, for me it’s what’s happening to immigrants.” She admitted, “It’s not the fear for myself anymore. I drive around in a four-car motorcade with a police escort. I’m Michelle Obama.”
However, she worries about her daughters and the broader community: “My fears are for what I know is happening out there in streets all over the city.”
She implied migrants aren’t receiving proper due process, saying, “now that we have leadership that is, sort of, indiscriminately determining who belongs and who doesn’t.”
Her brother, Craig Robinson, joined her, recalling childhood trauma involving racial profiling. Obama added, “And that… frightens me, it keeps me up at night.” She skipped Trump’s inauguration, citing, “It started with not having anything to wear.”
