MLB Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera and his wife, Clara Rivera, have been named in a civil lawsuit. The suit alleges they ignored and tried to silence reports of child sexual abuse connected to a church program they were affiliated with.

The lawsuit, originally filed in January 2025, was amended this week to include the Riveras. The case involves a woman identified as Jane Doe, who says she was abused in 2018 during a church-run summer internship in Gainesville, Florida.

Clara, who served as the senior pastor at Refuge of Hope in New York, allegedly recommended the program to Jane Doe.

Jane Doe claims she was assaulted again by another attendee at the program and later by a male youth leader in 2021. She also alleges that the Riveras pressured her to stay silent about the abuse.

The lawsuit accuses the couple of prioritizing their image and church reputation over protecting the woman from harm. No criminal charges have been filed, and the Riveras have denied all claims. They say they were unaware of the allegations until they received a legal notice in 2022.
The case is still ongoing.
