Comedian Deon Cole Says He’s ‘On The Road To Recovery’ After Undisclosed Health Battle
Deon Cole is opening up about his health journey after months of hospital visits.
The comedian and actor, known for his roles in Black-ish, Grown-ish, and Average Joe, took to Instagram earlier today (May 1) to share an encouraging update on his recovery, writing:
“Finally on the road to recovery. God is a great God. I praise Him and thank Him for His love, grace, and mercy.”
Deon, 53, first revealed in January that he had been hospitalized due to an undisclosed health complication. Though he has not publicly confirmed the specific nature of his illness, sources close to him suggest he may have been dealing with kidney-related issues.

In his post, Deon expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff who cared for him and the people who supported him along the way:
“I want to thank all the doctors, nurses (sisters), and staff here in South Africa at Christiaan Barnard Hospital and my doctor in the States, THANK YOU. I also want to thank my network BET, the cast and crew of Average Joe for delaying production and patiently supporting me. It means the world to me.”
We continue to keep Deon in our thoughts and prayers and wish him a full and speedy recovery!
