Diddy’s Lawyers File Motion To Prevent Cassie From Speaking w/Her Legal Team During Cross-Examination In Sex Trafficking Trial

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team wants to block Cassie from communicating with her attorneys during the remainder of her testimony in his sex trafficking trial.

According to court documents reviewed by Complex, ahead of Casandra “Cassie” Ventura’s return to the stand today (May 14), Diddy’s lawyers filed a motion arguing that allowing her to consult with her legal team during cross-examination could compromise the credibility of her statements. In the motion, they reportedly wrote:

“The court should order witnesses not to communicate with any third parties regarding their testimony, including their attorneys, while under cross-examination.”

While Diddy’s legal team did not request a “total bar on all communication,” they are specifically targeting discussions related to testimony. They argued that Cassie consulting her lawyers about issues tied to her previously settled civil suit “would be wholly improper.”

Cassie’s attorneys have pushed back, urging the judge to reject the motion because it would violate her rights. They said Cassie “should be permitted to continue to speak to her private civil attorneys on a number of important issues.”

They added that matters such as courtroom logistics and testimony tied to the settled civil case against Diddy are important for her to discuss with lawyers. They also cited the Crime Victims’ Rights Act, highlighting protections around “the victim’s dignity and privacy.”

The judge has reportedly denied Diddy’s legal team’s request, stating they failed to provide sufficient precedent showing that “third party witnesses” should be barred from attorney consultation in this context. Despite the setback, Diddy’s team continues to press the issue, asserting that such legal precedent does exist.

Cassie’s testimony so far has included graphic allegations of physical and emotional abuse by Combs, including claims of being drugged and forced into sexual labor.

We will continue to update as more details emerge.
