Brazilian Nun Goes Viral After Beatboxing On Catholic TV: ‘It Was Very Spontaneous’
Here’s your reminder not to judge a book by its cover.
Sister Marizele Cassiano and Sister Marisa de Paula, members of the Copiosa Redenção congregation, appeared on Brazil’s Eternal Father TV channel on May 20, and things took an unexpected turn.
While discussing a song about being called to religious life, the nuns stood up and began a full performance, with Sister Marizele beatboxing and Sister Marisa dancing. Then, host Deacon Giovani Bastos joined in as well.

“That moment was very spontaneous,” Sister Marizele told the Associated Press.
“Because with Sister Marisa, if you start a beat, she will dance. And I’m used to singing, to beatboxing, so for us it was very simple, spontaneous and at the same time very surprising to see that it went viral even outside Brazil.”
The nuns work closely with youth struggling with addiction and say music is one of their most powerful outreach tools.
