Brian McKnight Says His Brother Announcing His Son Niko’s Death Was ‘Tasteless & Self-Aggrandizing’
Brian McKnight is speaking out against his brother Claude McKnight for publicly announcing the de@th of Brian’s estranged son Niko McKnight on TikTok.
Brian called the announcement “tasteless and self-aggrandizing,” saying:
“Frankly, that was not his to make, in my opinion. He inserted himself and used Niko’s death as an opportunity, instead of letting him pass with respect and dignity.”
He added:
“It has instead turned into a circus, a mockery of a life now lost, making this tragedy into a reality show–type drama.”

Brian shared that while everything was unfolding, he and his family flew to Maui for a private memorial to honor Niko and remember “all the good times.” He said the last time he spoke with Niko, they offered him “all the help we could provide,” including access to “the number one oncologist” and a team of specialists ready to provide private care at home. “He and his mother declined. The door of communication was open and remained open until his death,” Brian claimed.
Brian also addressed the “self-proclaimed ‘mama bear’” directly, writing:
“May God have mercy on your soul for not allowing him to accept that help and not allowing him to use that line of communication.”
He ended by saying:
“There is great comfort in knowing God knows the TRUTH and the totality of the WHOLE story. I am truly thankful for the immense peace God has given me. I’ve left everything in HIS hands. I have a clear conscience. The only judgement that matters is God’s.”
We previously reported that Niko had passed after a battle with cancer, which Claude confirmed on TikTok. Claude also addressed the family’s tension, acknowledging the unresolved issues between Niko and Brian.
We send condolences to the McKnight family during this difficult time.
