R. Kelly’s Lawyers File Emergency Motion Demanding His Release, Claim Prison Officials Tried To Have Him Killed
R. Kelly’s legal team is demanding his immediate release from federal custody, claiming his life is in danger.
In a new emergency motion, the singer’s lawyers say they have “explicit evidence” that officials at the North Carolina prison tried to orchestrate his murder by soliciting a terminally ill inmate to kill him in exchange for freedom.
That inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, allegedly told Kelly that officials approached him because Kelly and his attorneys were planning to expose damaging information, including alleged violations of attorney-client privilege through intercepted personal correspondence. Stine claims officials assured him that even if he were charged, the evidence would be mishandled and there would be no conviction.

Stine, who is affiliated with the Aryan Brotherhood, was placed in Kelly’s unit in March and said he initially planned to carry out the murder but later had a change of heart. Kelly’s legal team also claims a second Aryan Brotherhood member was later directed to kill both Kelly and Stine.
“The thre@t to Mr. Kelly’s life continues each day that no action is taken,” the filing reads. “More A.B. members are accumulating at his facility. More than one has already been approached about carrying out his m*rder. One of them will surely do what Mr. Stine has not.”
Kelly’s attorney, Beau B. Brindley, is asking for temporary home detention while the matter is investigated.
R.Kelly is currently serving a 30-year federal sentence after being convicted in 2021 of racketeering and sexual exploitation of children. He was later sentenced to 20 more years in a separate case; however, 19 will be served concurrently.
