Nearly 2 Million Dozen Eggs Confirmed After Salmonella Outbreak Sickens People In 7 States
A nationwide egg recall is making headlines as nearly 2 million dozen brown eggs have been pulled from store shelves due to salmonella risks.
The FDA announced that California-based August Egg Company is recalling 1.7 million dozen cage-free and organic eggs distributed across several states. The recall follows a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 79 people in seven states, with most cases reported in California.
Eggs were sold at major retailers like Walmart and stores in California and Nevada including Raley’s, Safeway, and Smart & Final. The recalled eggs were distributed between early February and mid-May 2025, with plant codes P-6562 or CA5330 and Julian dates 32 through 126.
August Egg Company said it responded quickly by diverting all potentially affected eggs to a pasteurization facility. Consumers are urged to check their cartons and return affected eggs for a refund. The CDC warns against eating the eggs and recommends monitoring for symptoms like diarrhea and fever.
