Young Thug’s Lawyer Brian Steel Files Motion To Modify RICO Sentence Following Landmark YSL Trial & Early Release
According to Atlanta News First, Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, has filed a motion in Fulton County Superior Court requesting a hearing to modify the rapper’s sentencing. The motion, filed Monday, does not specify what changes are being sought.
Thug was arrested on May 9, 2022, along with 27 others on organized crime, drug, and weapons charges. Prosecutors alleged he led YSL — Young Slime Life — as a criminal gang. Defense attorneys argued YSL stood for Young Stoner Life, a legitimate music label.
Thug faced eight counts under RICO laws and was also charged with possession of marijuana, codeine, cocaine, a firearm, and a machine gun. On October 31, 2024, he accepted a non-negotiated plea deal.
Thug is currently on probation for 15 years. As part of his deal, he was originally sentenced to 40 years, with the first 5 years to be served in prison, which was commuted to time served. The remaining 15 years are to be served on probation. There is also an additional 20 years of potential prison time that is backloaded and will be served if he violates probation.
What are your thoughts on Thug’s sentence possibly being altered?
