#TJBReacts: Instagram Faces Backlash Over New Map Feature That Shares Users’ Location When They Open The App
Instagram is rolling out its new map feature, which allows users to share their most recent location, but the public isn’t exactly loving it.
The social media platform is facing heavy criticism, with many citing safety concerns. Others argue Instagram is simply copying Snapchat, which has featured a location-sharing map as one of its core functions for years.

Explaining the new feature, Instagram says the map is intended to make connecting and hanging out with friends easier, as well as help users discover more location-based content. They clarified that location sharing is off by default, and a user’s location only updates when they open the app, meaning it doesn’t provide continuous real-time tracking.
Still, users seem to be wary of the new feature, with many urging others to head to their IG settings and permanently turn it off.
