Speaking with supporters last night (Sept. 15) at the Coca-Cola Roxy in #Atlanta for her book tour, #IssaRae addressed demands to bring back her beloved HBO series. “I’ve always said if I bring Insecure back, it’s ‘cause I’m down bad,” Issa expressed. “From jump, I knew I wanted to tell a story for five seasons. We all loved each other, working with each other on the show.”
Insecure debuted in 2016 and concluded in 2021. Since its conclusion, fans have repeatedly asked Issa to revive the series or bring the cast back for a film. Further explaining why she wanted to end with season five, Issa said: “I always had a feeling that six seasons was a little too much. Even the fifth season was like—‘Are we going to be good?’ People get antsy and want to do their own things afterward…I just didn’t want to overstay our welcome.”
Issa is currently on tour for her book I Should Be Smarter By Now, a collection of six essays available on Amazon.
What do you think? Would six seasons have been too much?
