Tyrese Gibson Turns Himself In After Dogs Allegedly K#1l Neighbor’s Pet
Singer and actor Tyrese Gibson surrendered to police in Atlanta on Friday, where he was booked on a charge of animal cruelty and later released, according to jail records. The arrest stemmed from an incident on Sept. 18 when authorities say four of his cane corso dogs fatally mauled a neighbor’s 5-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel named Henry.
Court documents state Henry was let outside around 10 p.m., and when his owner returned minutes later, he found the dog gravely injured in the driveway. A police report noted broken ribs, puncture marks, and severe internal bleeding. Security footage allegedly captured Gibson’s four dogs heading toward Henry’s home.
Prosecutors said Gibson acknowledged his pets were likely responsible, telling authorities he believed his dogs killed Henry and admitting they had been escaping for months. Records show animal control had received multiple complaints, and Gibson was previously warned about the issue on Sept. 7.
His attorney, Gabe Banks, said in a statement shared on Instagram that Gibson was out of town when the attack occurred but “he accepts full responsibility for his dogs.” Banks added that two of the cane corsos have since been rehomed, and three puppies were placed “in safe and loving homes.”
Gibson also released his own statement online, writing: “After nearly 40 years of being a passionate dog lover … my dogs have only ever been treated as family. They’ve never been trained to harm, never spent a single day in attack or protection training, and they’ve grown up playing with kids and smaller dogs in my home. That’s why this incident has left me shocked, devastated, and heartbroken for the family affected.”
Authorities say Gibson could also face penalties related to a special permit required for keeping more than 10 dogs.
