Media Personality Ebro Explains Why He Accused 50 Cent Of ‘Ruining New York Hip Hop’
Is New York hip hop ruined?
During the second episode of The Ebro Laura Rosenberg Show, #EbroDarden explained why he once told #50Cent that he believes the rapper played a role in the decline of New York hip hop. “Y’all know, nobody wanted to work together,” #Ebro said. “People who were already popping in the city were like, everybody was hemming and hawing and soft shoeing because nobody wanted to work together because 50 Cent was so popping.”
Pushing back on the idea that either 50 or his co-host should be blamed for the shift in the New York hip hop scene, #PeterRosenberg offered a different perspective. “It’s not even true that 50, quote, unquote, ruined New York hip hop, but he did it more than you did. Neither of you did, by the way,” #Rosenberg said. He went on to argue that #NewYork hip hop lost momentum when artists began chasing Southern sounds instead. Rosenberg added, “It was about lazy DJs too, lazy DJs who were like, ‘The hot thing is #Atlanta.’”
