Jailed Rapper YNW Melly Wins Major Victory As Prosecutors Drop Witness Tampering Charges
YNW Melly received some good news today.
Prosecutors in Florida dropped witness tampering charges against #YNWMelly right before his scheduled trial.
The “M*rder On My Mind” artist had been due to begin jury selection this week on the state tampering counts, but with those allegations dismissed, attention now shifts fully to his long-running doublem*rder case.
Melly’s newly retained legal team celebrated the decision, telling TMZ, “On behalf of Jamell Demons [YNW Mel], we welcome the dismissal of the alleged tampering and gang-related charges in court this morning.” They added that it was clear to them “that no crimes had occurred” despite the charges hanging over Melly for nearly two years. “Unfortunately, for 652 days while these charges were pending, the State did not reach the same conclusion until the cusp of trial,” his attorneys said. His lawyers are now seeking his release from a Broward County jail while he awaits a retrial in the 2018 double m*rder case set for January 2027, where he again faces the de@th penalty if convicted.
