Rapper Lupe Fiasco Says Renters Gets Too Much Hate: ‘Some People Aren’t Built For Ownership’
Rapper Lupe Fiasco is pushing back against the idea that everyone needs to own a home or car to be financially successful.
During a recent Instagram discussion, the rapper questioned the pressure people face to buy property instead of renting, arguing that ownership is not always the best fit for everyone.
“There’s pros and cons to both,” he explained. “Some people aren’t built for ownership.”
Lupe called it “bullsh*t” to make renters feel ashamed, explaining that renting can make sense depending on a person’s finances, lifestyle, responsibilities, and long-term plans.
He also argued that the concept of fully owning certain major purchases is more complicated than people admit.
According to Lupe, homeowners still have to keep paying property taxes even after a mortgage is gone. Car owners also face continuing fees and requirements.
“In certain capabilities, ownership is overrated,” he added.
Because those expenses never completely disappear, Lupe questioned whether people ever truly own those assets outright.
His comments challenged the traditional belief that ownership automatically equals financial freedom.
