Young Thug Defends Helping Lil Durk With Legal Team, Says He Sent His Own Lawyer Brian Steel To Take Rapper’s Case: ‘Stop Making Me The Bad Guy’
Young Thug is seemingly addressing the ongoing conversation surrounding Lil Durk’s high-powered legal team and who helped make it happen as the Chicago rapper’s federal trial continues.
The conversation recently resurfaced amid reports that several artists, including Drake, Ye and 21 Savage, have allegedly helped with Durk’s mounting legal expenses. Young Thug previously claimed in September 2025 that he was the person who sent his longtime attorney Brian Steel to help Durk, writing at the time that he did so “on my dime.” However, recent reporting has disputed exactly who is paying Steel’s fees.
Now, Thug appears to be defending his role in getting Steel involved. In a new post, he wrote:
“Yall asking blogs who paid for lawyers lol if I didn’t say he was my brother my lawyer wouldn’t have even took the case. I sent Brian to get with him and take the case.”
He added, “Stop making me the bad guy and pray harder for him cause I am.”
Regardless of the debate over who ultimately paid the bill, one part is confirmed: Steel officially joined Durk’s defense team in March and is now actively defending him at trial. Steel previously represented Young Thug throughout his highly publicized YSL RICO case and has been cross-examining witnesses in Durk’s ongoing federal proceedings.
Durk has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
