EXCLUSIVE: Dr. Heavenly On Why She Left Carlos King’s Show To Launch Her Own Podcast

Dr. Heavenly Kimes is opening up about leaving her show with reality TV producer Carlos King and deciding to build a platform of her own.

During an exclusive interview with theJasmineBrand founder @itsjasminebrand for Visionaries Only, the Married to Medicine star made it clear that her decision wasn’t the result of a falling out with Carlos. “Carlos is ambitious and I love him with all my soul. And yes, he’s my friend,” Heavenly said. Despite their show sometimes attracting a major audience, she said she reached a point where she was ready to move on. “Sometimes we had over 300,000 people watching… I just said, ‘Carlos, I can’t do this no more. I can’t do it.’ And he, I ain’t gonna lie, he begged me.”

Heavenly explained that she had grown tired of centering her conversations around Housewives and reality TV drama. “I just couldn’t bring myself to talk about that… no more. I just couldn’t,” she said, noting that she felt there was “so much more to talk about.” Instead of continuing with a format that was already bringing in viewers, Heavenly launched her own podcast, Unpolished, and began focusing on broader conversations, including politics, culture and issues impacting the Black community.

The shift meant essentially rebuilding her audience. Heavenly said Unpolished initially drew around 4,000 viewers before increasing to about 8,000 and more recently roughly 13,000 regular viewers. While those numbers are smaller than the hundreds of thousands she says she and Carlos sometimes attracted, Heavenly appears committed to growing a platform centered around conversations she genuinely wants to have.
