Tyler Perry Says New Netflix Film ‘Doing Life’ Is An Homage To Black Classics ‘Love Jones’ & ‘Jason’s Lyric’

Tyler Perry is giving fans a little insight into the films that helped shape his latest project.

The filmmaker recently revealed that his new Netflix movie, “Doing Life,” pays homage to several films that left an impression on him, sharing images from beloved Black romantic dramas “Love Jones” and “Jason’s Lyric.” Perry wrote,

“I’m just gonna go on and say it… My latest movie, Doing Life, is an homage to these great films and the way they made me feel after I saw them.”

He also thanked viewers who have already watched the movie, adding, “For all of you who’ve seen Doing Life already, thank you. And for those who haven’t, I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.”

“Love Jones,” starring Larenz Tate and Nia Long, was released in 1997 and has since become a cult classic, while 1994’s “Jason’s Lyric,” starring Allen Payne and Jada Pinkett Smith, is another celebrated Black romance. Perry’s “Doing Life,” starring Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves, is now streaming on Netflix.
