Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass Defeated By City Councilmember Nithya Raman In Reelection Bid
#LosAngeles is getting a new mayor. According to CBS News projections, City Councilmember Nithya Raman has defeated incumbent Mayor #KarenBass in the city’s 2026 mayoral election. Raman, a Democratic socialist, launched her surprise campaign in February despite previously endorsing Bass for reelection. Initially calling her bid a “long shot,” Raman gained momentum after beating reality TV personality #SpencerPratt in the June primary, ultimately advancing to face Bass in the general election. The race remained tight leading up to Election Day, with a late October poll showing both candidates tied at 40% support among likely voters. Raman, who joined the City Council in 2020, has focused heavily on housing affordability and homelessness. Meanwhile, Bass, who received endorsements from Gov. #GavinNewsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris, previously announced that this would be her final campaign for public office.
