Tina Campbell Voted For Trump Because Of His Views On Christianity
Back in January, Mary Mary singer Tina Campbell made headlines, after penning an open letter stating that she supports President Donald Trump. Fast forward to the present day and the gospel artist is still making headlines. Explaining her current point of view with The Root, she shares,
You ain’t never going to see that in there. Donald Trump is not that much a part of my life. I had a perspective. I had a feeling. And I put it out there. I know there’s some people who don’t agree. I do not agree with a lot of the decisions that this man makes. And I made that very clear in my statement.

Tina, who co-stars with her sister Erica Campbell on their reality show “Mary Mary”, elaborates as to why she voted for Trump.
I was faced with two presidential candidates that I really did not approve of. And so I had to find something, a commonality with one of them, that would make me feel like if I have to vote, I should utilize my right to vote. Since I don’t prefer either of them, what can I find that would make me vote? And some of Donald Trump’s views on Christianity, honestly, is what caused me to vote for him. Many of the decisions that he has made afterwards, I have not been in agreement with at all, which I wasn’t in agreement with my last president that I voted for. But however, as a Christian, my perspective is to pray for the president, to not use my social platforms or other platforms to try to destroy this man, because at the end of the day, he still represents the country that I live in.

So if I’m going to use my platform, my power, my voice, I ought to use it to pray for him. To pray that he would make wise decisions, that he would be true to the oath that he took, and to not incite fear by talking about everything that’s wrong, especially with people that’s my color,. So all the fear that I was hearing in churches everywhere and amongst African-American people, I was like, ‘Man, we’re making a god out of this fellow. We think that our life is going to go to hell in a handbasket if he don’t get it right. And is he our god or is God our god? Are we going to pray for him or are we going to continue to bash him, which don’t help nothing? I don’t make those statements to become politically charged. I have an opinion and I expressed it because I was so disheartened from what I was hearing in churches in our community. So that is literally where that came from. Not a ‘Let me tell everybody how for Donald Trump I am and try to get everybody to be on the Trump train.’ That was not it.
Tina also says that she’s okay with people not agreeing with her opinion about Trump.
And I didn’t feel like trying to explain that or argue that. So I didn’t. So I never talked about it again. I ain’t never explaining that any further. They can understand it or not understand it. I don’t have an agenda to make people agree with me, believe me, understand me. I have a platform and I use my voice. I understand sometimes people will agree. They will disagree. They will lift me up or they will tear me down. They will bash me or they will build me. That comes with the territory. So I don’t try to chase that stuff. I don’t care to.

i don’t think she was condoning hate. She explained that she had a choice to make so that she could excise her right to vote, so she choice to vote for Trump because his most of his views line up with the Bible. That all
I wasn’t aware that hate was christ-like. Maybe Tina is so far removed from whats going on in the world and doesnt realize how Trump treats women, the disabled, people of color, taking us into war, pardoning the alt- wrong etc. What, my song bird is christ-like or Christian about any of that? Maybe your in the 1% of Americans who stand to benefit from that SLUG of a man but the other 90% think your misguided. (He does have some other misguided supporters). Yeah, she would have been better off saying, thats who she voted for, her reason was faux. Nothing during his campaign hinted at him being remotely spiritual let alone a christian. So she lied to herself but it was her right(s).
His views don’t line up with the Bible. They line up with conservatives whose sole mission is to destroy the things President Obama worked to achieve for the good of as many people as possible.
I hear her saying she agrees with his Christian values but many people have Christian Values and use them as justification to do many hateful things. Its such an oxy-moron!
Having optimism is one thing, since he is the president.
But actually voting for him, knowing the type of hate he promoted. I don’t understand the logic.
When has this man displayed any Christian Values!?!? We are all entitled to our own opinions and we have the right to vote for whoever we choose, but I have to say, I lost a lot of respect for her.
Which is exactly why I left her “where she’s at.” It’s clear that through decisions she’s made for herself (and for others via her vote) that she doesn’t possess basic critical thinking skills…

Yes Christian values matter, i feel that shouldn’t be the only reason u vote for a candidate. There are two many issue going on with hard working people, high health insurance, low wedges, no health insurance, sexism, racism, racial profiling. Dang, its her opinion! She shared it, its ok to RESPECTFULLY disagree with people but in this day and age when everyone can hide behind a screen there’s been a rise of “bullies”. Sit down! I agree but that was her point in penning an open letter to tell folks who she voted for (which was her business alone) she was welcoming a conversation – good or bad. Although, i will not bash her, her move is calculated so she has no empathy from me.
