Jay-Z’s Occupy T-Shirts Pulled From Web Site

Friday, Jay-Z launched an Occupy Wall Street T-shirt line, called “Occupy All Streets” on Rocawear’s web site. The shirt, which he rocked during his recent NYC concert, sparked enough interest for the Rocawear clothing label to create a t-shirt line. But after it became public knowledge that the profits weren’t helping the Occupy Wall Street movement, a few critics voiced their displeasure.
In a statement to Gawker, a Rocawear spokesperson explained:
“Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time, we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.”
Fast forward to the present day, over the weekend, Rocawear stopped selling the shirts online. Grim (an #OccupyWallStreet leader) told TMZ,
“To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”
Meanwhile, no official statement explaining the recall has been shared from the Rocawear camp. [New York Post]
