Lyor Cohen Calls It Quits, Resigns from Warner Music Group

After eight years, Lyor Cohen, Chairman/CEO of Recorded Music for Warner Music Group, has resigned. His announcement was released today and confirmed by Billboard. The site reports
Former EMI CEO Roger Faxon — who just stepped down from that role Friday, in the wake of Universal Music’s acquisition of the company clearing the EU and FTC — has long been rumored to take over the helm at Warner.
And Cohen shared in a statement,
“To all the artists and employees who live and die for the music every day, and who personally sacrifice for the good of the creative process: ‘keep on keepin’ on’ in the tradition of a company that respects and honors the artistic community.”
Outside of his work with WMG, Cohen is considered a pioneer in the development in hip hop music. He’s been involved in the development with legendary folk like Beastie Boys, Run DMC, LL Cool J–not too mention his Def Jam influence. Long story short, google him. No word on what his next move will be.
