Remembering Elizabeth: Husband Advice, Memorable Tweets & Quotes

Legendary actress, Elizabeth Taylor, passed today, March 23, 2011, of congestive heart failure. The following statement was released by her publicist: Taylor died “peacefully today in Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles….a condition with which she had struggled for many years. Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home. Sadly, this was not to be.”

Ms. Taylor may be the only 79-year-old celebrity on Twitter. One of my favorite tweets from Taylor was tweeted last July, when she dropped the following jewel: “Every breath you take today should be with someone else in mind. I love you.”

And when our dear Lena Horne departed, she tweeted: “Lena Horne…one of the most beautiful women in the world passed away today. Her dignity and grace and talent shall be remembered forever.”

In an interview in Harper’s Bazaar, Taylor discussed her six husbands, jewels and her human side to Kim Kardashian. She shared: “I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands. For me, life happened, just as it does for anyone else. I have been supremely lucky in my life in that I have known great love, and of course I am the temporary custodian of some incredible and beautiful things. But I have never felt more alive than when I watched my children delight in something, never more alive than when I have watched a great artist perform, and never richer than when I have scored a big check to fight AIDS. Follow your passion, follow your heart, and the things you need will come.”

And some of my favorite life quotes:

“I suppose when they reach a certain age some men are afraid to grow up. It seems the older the men get, the younger their new wives get.”

“I’ve been through it all, baby, I’m mother courage.”

“Success is a great deodorant.”

“You find out who your real friends are when you’re involved in a scandal.”

“It’s not the having, it’s the getting.”
