Ryan Leslie Performs in DC + Talks Being A Momma’s Boy & New Music

Friday, April 1, Grammy-nominated record producer, musician, entrepreneur, and singer, Ryan Leslie hit Washington, DC, and performed at the Park at Fourteenth, for Beny Blaq Entertainment’s Unplugged series. Post performance, and rocking his best stunna shades, we rapped briefly. Peep the interview.
TJB: In “Joan Of Arc” there’s a line where you say, “You call your mother for advice.” In real life, is that really something that you would do in that situation?
Ryan Leslie: Absolutely. I don’t really call my mother for advice unless I’m really going through it. She’s like the only one who would really understand, and would also tell me the faults that I had that got me into the situation. So yeah, I called my mother up for advice and she said, “Son, hold your heart because girls play the victim so well.”

The Jasmine Brand: Would you say you’re a mama’s boy?
Ryan Leslie: Would I say I’m a mama’s boy? Well I mean I am my mother’s son.

The Jasmine Brand: Tell me about the album. What can we expect?
Ryan Leslie: The record’s called “Les Is More”, it’s coming out the Fourth of July, and probably the most interesting thing about it is that it’s a rap album.
The Jasmine Brand: Obviously, your multi-talented in writing, producing and performing. If you had to choose one, which would it be?
Ryan Leslie: I’d probably go to the grave without choosing. (laughs)
The Jasmine Brand: Okay, what do you enjoy the most?
Ryan Leslie: I love performing, obviously. As you can see from tonight’s performance, I love it.
