Poet/musician/author, Gil Scott-Heron, has passed at the age of 62 years old. Scott-Heron was well-known for his poetic work and his composition, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.” Many hip-hop artists referred to him as the Godfather of Rap. He passed in New York City, where was was born, on May 27. Scott-Heron had become ill after returning from an European trip. After the news hit, Chuck D tweeted, “RIP GSH…and we do what we do and how we do because of you.” Usher shared, “I just learned of the loss of a very important poet…R.I.P., Gil Scott-Heron. The revolution will be live!!” Scott-Heron is survived by his wife and daughter. Rest. In. Peace.
